"Check the calendar!" This was the theme of the fall sports season! Keeping it straight was a full time job. And we loved it. It was a good fall for everyone. Easton had soccer, Drew football and piano, Dallin soccer and band, and Mason had marching band, trumpet lesson, and piano. Then of course there is cub scouts for Drew, boy scouts for Dallin, and Young Men's (youth group) for Mason. I was proud of them all. And there isn't a lot of time now that this season is done until we get going again next week!
Mason had practice for marching band at 7am every morning, so he would wake up at 5am, go to seminary (a scripture study class for all the high school students of our church), then go straight from seminary to 7am marching band - did I mention this was every school morning. And he woke up on his own and was ready to go by the time Mark or I got ourselves down the stairs to take him. Mason also has trumpet lessons and piano lessons each week. It was a tough schedule and he rocked every second of it.
My friend took this shot (or stole this shot, Mason did not want a picture in his uniform).
Dallin had soccer practice twice a week. He loved it and excelled. Unfortunately there was only one Saturday game the whole season (there was supposed to be two, but one was cancelled due to weather and never rescheduled). Dallin took it all in stride, but he did great the game he played in. He isn't the biggest player, but he doesn't hesitate to get right in there. Dallin started band here at the middle school and has had to play catch up. The kids here started in 5th grade. Dallin had 9 weeks of trumpet in 6th grade. He has private lessons at school each week on top of the normal band. It hasn't been easy on him playing catch-up, but he just keeps at it and is really working hard. He and the middle school band were able to join the high school students for one of the football games in the opening ceremonies to play the fight song.
Drew finally got to play American football other than at recess. He loved every second of it. He loved going to practice and was always disappointed if it was raining on practice nights! He had great coaches and the team really learned the game. They were able to play in the championship, they didn't win, but it was so great the improvement and growth in the team. He is also back to taking piano lessons and often practices twice a day (and never has to be asked).
Easton started soccer. He was so excited to finally be able to get into practices and games. He could hardly believe he only had one practice and one game a week, every day he wanted to know when he could go again. He started out a little cautiously, but by the end of the season was getting right into the thick of things and scoring multiple times each game. I was impressed with his coach and how much fun he made learning the game for those kids. And of course Easton can say his season involved being dragged all over the place to watch a whole bunch of boring.
