Our last visitors

So our last visitors to Chile were also our first visitors to Chile.  My parents came to stay with us for two weeks in May.  It was so welcomed to have them here during the long separation from Mark.  Since the kids were in school and had lots of activities on the weekends, I got to spend a lot of quality time with my parents as we explored Santiago during the weekdays.  I have had a few things left to do in Santiago before we left and my parents happily helped me check those things off my list.  And luckily they were things my parents wanted to see as well.  We did a lot of the big tourist things the first time my parents were here, so this time we got to do the bonus round. 

 My parents left spring weather (which still meant some snow) to come to the beautiful fall colors of Chile.

We had a very good visit to the Museum of Memories and Human Rights.  It is a beautifully done museum about the Pinochet Era and his dictatorship and how it affected the people of Chile.  The lesson is heavy, but knowing this history helps to better understand the people of Chile.

 We were able to spend an afternoon at a vineyard to take a tour of the winery and then have lunch with an incredible view.  The weather was sunny and warm.  A perfect fall day.

We don't have pictures but my dad and I also went to the Pre-Colombian museum downtown.  Since we moved here I have heard it is a must see, however there was a slight problem, it was closed for two years during major renovation.  It finally reopened about 4 months ago, so I was anxious to go, and so was my dad.  My mom unfortunately was not feeling well, so she stayed home to rest.  

 We were able to visit Pablo Neruda's home.  A Nobel prize winning Chilean poet, who the Chileans are very proud of.  He was a collector of anything and everything and his home showcases these.  He loved people and to laugh and it is evident in his home.  He was a brilliant poet who loved Chile.

Although it looks like we are on the phone, we are actually listening to the audio tour. 

There were games with grandkids and walks in the park as well too.

 And sharing in events like school assemblies and the Pinewood Derby!
